My Nana sometimes still calls the shop Cash’s but it has not been that name since before I was born, in 1998.
Roches Stores changed names in 2006.

William Roche was born in Killavullen, near Mallow.
In 1919, he purchased the London House at 15 St Partick’s Street but it was destroyed in Burning of Cork. Bigger new premisies opened in 1927. Debenhams are now in the building.
Brown Thomas are now in the building that once was Cash’s. There are still some signs of Cash’s on the building.

We asked Sean in the top hat for permission to trace one of the ghostsigns. He said it was o.k. and you can see our tracing on display.
We read of two different explanations for the name Cash.
One was Carmichael – Arnott – McOstrich. The other was Carmichael Arnott Smyth Hitchmough
When we were looking at old newspapers in the library we saw an advertisement for Carmichael & Co. We think that this is the same Carmichael.
