AIB Bank was formed in 1966 when three banks all came together to form Allied Irish Banks – that then became AIB Bank. One of the three banks was the Munster & Leinster Bank. The AIB Bank on South Mall still has ghostsigns for the Munster & Leinster Bank on the building and on the gutters.

Izzy was visiting relations in Westport over Christmas and saw that the name of another of the banks that joined together to form Allied Irish Bank was Royal Bank of Ireland.

The Provincial Bank of Ireland was the third bank that merged with Munster & Leinster Bank and Royal Bank of Ireland to form Allied Irish Banks.
